camp excited for new experiences. As a Camp Counselor, it’s your responsibility
to encourage them to be courageous, demonstrate compassion and leadership, and
participate in energetic activities that build memories for a lifetime. You
have a desire to work with youth as they learn and succeed. You strive to be an
inspiration. You want to have a positive impact on them as they build a
stronger sense of courage, confidence, and character.
Girl Scouts San Diego is looking for
dedicated and qualified staff members for our 2018 summer camps. Seasonal camp
positions are open for our two resident camps located in Julian, CA. Camp
positions will start on or about June 14, 2018 and will end August 18, 2018. It
is preferred that our dynamic staff have experience working with youth, but it
is not required.
Camp Winacka - Located
in Julian, CA, this rustic camp features a swimming and equestrian program,
high adventure programs, environmental education and arts and crafts.
Traditional camp activities, along with specialist programs are what makes Camp
Winacka unique. Campers and staff sleep in open air cabins, platforms tents or
on cots under the stars.
Under moderate supervision, provide effective behavior and camper management counseling by identifying needs, providing support to campers and staff, and ensuring that plans are carried out within appropriate GSUSA, council and ACA policies, standards and procedures and local, state and federal laws.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in the direction, supervision and organization of campers in their living unit, during activities, and throughout the camp in order to provide an outstanding camper experience.
- Works with unit staff, administrative team, and camper parents as needed to develop individualized camper support plans to contribute to the successful experience of select campers.
- Assists unit staff with program adaptations to meet the needs of all campers in the unit.
- Helps plan and execute activities within the framework of individual and group interests and abilities.
- Incorporates teaching of special skills and an appreciation of the outdoors into all unit activities and day-to-day life.
- Assists in program areas such as waterfront, nature, all camp activities and arts and crafts, as directed.
- Maintains high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff.
- Assures campers are properly supervised at all times; be aware of and implement safety guidelines as outlined in Safety Activity Checkpoints, ACA and camp operational guidelines.
- Is alert to campers and staff needs and assist them with personal and/or health problems; consult with camp healthcare staff and/or camp director when appropriate.
- Is alert to equipment and facilities to ensure utilization, proper care and maintenance is adhered to; reports repairs needed promptly to camp director.
- Maintains clear and positive written and verbal communication with all internal and external clients.
- Contributes to the diversity emphasis of the council by ensuring that all materials, activities and programs are sensitive to and reflective of the interest, values and needs of persons of all racial/ethnic groups, cultures, religions, and abilities.
- Adheres to all council policies and procedures.
- Observes all safety precautions and complies with all council health and safety rules and procedures.

- Must be 21 years of age.
- BA/BS degree
- Two years prior seasons of administration or supervision experience in an organized camp.
- Must be able to obtain current First Aid/CPR certification by first day of campers’ arrival.
- Must submit health history record prior to first day of work.
- Ability to interact with all age levels.
- Attends staff meeting.
- Flexible, adaptable; works well in a team.
- Operates well under excitement or stress.
- Attends staff and in-service training during the summer.
- Access to reliable transportation for own transport to camp in Julian, CA.
- Willingness to accept the beliefs and principles of the Girl Scout Movement and acceptance of the relevant and compelling benefits of Girl Scouting.
Office Equipment/ Machines/ Electronic Devices
Personal computer and printers, telephone, fax machine, copier, audiovisual equipment, and other miscellaneous office equipment.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, work with fingers, grasp, feel, talk, hear and perform repetitive motions.
- Ability to perform light work exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of forced constantly to move objects.
- Heavy visual acuity required performing such activities as preparing and analyzing data and figures, using computer terminal and reading.
- Activities occur both inside and outside and employee is subject to both environmental conditions; however, employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
- Walking 3-5 miles per day.
- On feet all day in the sun and heat.
- Swimming skills a plus.
