Girl Scouts San Diego is looking for dedicated and qualified staff members for our 2018 summer camps. Seasonal camp positions are open for our two resident camps located in Julian, CA. Camp positions will start on or about June 16, 2018 and will end August 18, 2018. It is preferred that our dynamic staff have experience working with youth, but it is not required.
Camp Winacka - Located in Julian, CA, this rustic camp features a swimming and equestrian program, high adventure programs, environmental education and arts and crafts. Traditional camp activities, along with specialist programs are what makes Camp Winacka unique. Campers and staff sleep in open air cabins, platforms tents or on cots under the stars.
Camp Whispering Oaks - Located in Julian, CA, this camp features arts and crafts, a sport field, basketball court, challenge course, and astronomy programming. The camps season begins mid-June and ends the middle of August. Campers and staff enjoy modern cabins with bunk beds and electricity.
Under direct supervision, assist kitchen manager in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen and dishwashing area as well as preparing and serving nutritious, well-balanced meals for campers and staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in routine sanitation of the kitchen and related equipment, including washing all dishes and cleaning and maintaining food preparation and storage areas.
- Helps to prepare and serve all camp meals as directed; assists in preparation of food as menu indicates, including washing, chopping and peeling.
- Performs routine duties, to include but not be limited to, dish washing and kitchen clean-up, plating and portioning food as directed and staffing the service window during meals.
- Assists in the preparation and packaging of food for use outside of the dining hall.
- Ensures awareness, and sensitivity and diligence of campers’ food allergies or special diets.
- Maintains clear and positive written and verbal communication with all internal and external clients.
- Contributes to the diversity emphasis of the council by ensuring that all materials, activities and programs are sensitive to and reflective of the interest, values and needs of persons of all racial/ethnic groups, cultures, religions and abilities.
- Adheres to all council policies and procedures.
- Observes all safety precautions and complies with all council health and safety rules and procedures.
- Attends staff and in-service training during the summer.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.

- Must be able to obtain Food Handler’s Certificate (training/testing provided at camp).
- At least 18 years of age.
- Ability to take direction and communicate effectively with all levels.
- Must be able to obtain current First Aid/CPR certification by first day of campers’ arrival.
- Must submit health history record prior to first day of work.
- Attends staff meetings.
- Ability to interact with all age levels.
- Valid drivers’ license, proof of insurance and access to reliable transportation. Daily and/or occasional travel may be required. Must be comfortable driving narrow, winding mountain roads with passengers in mini or cargo vans.
- Willingness to accept the beliefs and principles of the Girl Scout Movement and acceptance of the relevant and compelling benefits of Girl Scouting.

Personal computer and printers, telephone, fax machine, copier, audiovisual equipment, and other miscellaneous office equipment.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, work with fingers, grasp, feel, talk, hear and perform repetitive motions.
- Ability to perform light work exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Activities occur both inside and outside and employee is subject to both environmental conditions; however, employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
