Girl Scouts San Diego is looking for dedicated and qualified staff members for our 2018 summer camps. Seasonal camp positions are open for our two resident camps located in Julian, CA. Camp positions will start on or about June 8, 2018 and will end August 19, 2018. It is preferred that our dynamic staff have experience working with youth, but it is not required.
Camp Whispering Oaks - Located in Julian, CA, this camp features arts and crafts, a sport field, basketball court, challenge course, and astronomy programming. The camps season begins mid-June and ends the middle of August. Campers and staff enjoy modern cabins with bunk beds and electricity.
Under moderate supervision maintains supplies, oversees on site drop off /pick up and communicates with Council about busses; communicates professionalism with parents; coordinates with kitchen regarding dietary needs and pack outs; assists with e-camp activities, supports the camp director in all facets of the camp program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Delivers materials, food and supplies to units and out based activities.
- Responsible for purchasing camp supplies to include coordination of regular session shopping trips and places orders for supplies with approved vendors. Reviews and replenishes all camp supply inventories.
- Responsible for daily camper blog; taking and uploading camper photos; printing parent e-mails and distributing; and overall management of e-camp software.
- Oversees bus stop and on site drop off/pick up procedures and operations, including but not limited to camper/parent check-in, managing bus chaperones, and coordinating with council employees.
- Assists staff with other duties, to include but not limited to, participation in overall camp operations, as directed.
- Communicates dietary needs and pack out requests with the Kitchen Manager.
- Responsible for inspection, repair and storage of camp equipment as needed.
- Coordinates and participates in delivery of luggage on change days.
- Transports campers and staff as needed.
- Assists in maintenance, program and other camp areas as assigned by supervisor.
- Receives and executes daily task lists from camp director.
- Assists with food service and cleaning, as assigned.
- Oversees delivery and retrieval of U.S. mail and electronic mail for campers and staff.
- Maintains clear and positive written and verbal communication with all internal and external clients.
- Contributes to the diversity emphasis of the council by ensuring that all materials, activities and programs are sensitive to and reflective of the interest, values and needs of persons of all racial/ethnic groups, cultures, religions and abilities.
- Adheres to all council policies and procedures.
- Observes all safety precautions and complies with all council health and safety rules and procedures.
- Serves as a lead facilitator of archery or challenge course, as assigned.
- Supervises inventory of miscellaneous program supplies including camping equipment, t-shirts and patches and office supplies.

- Inventory - keeps accurate and detailed records of supplies and equipment, ensures timely ordering of supplies, and retires equipment according to guidelines or damage.
- Budget - Keeps accurate record of purchasing activities, stays within the budget guidelines, notifies supervisor when budget is insufficient to ordering supplies, complete reimbursements and logs of spending according to council deadlines.

- Must be 21 years of age.
- Must be willing to obtain a Class B license.
- Must be able to obtain current First Aid/CPR certification by first day of campers’ arrival.
- Must submit health history record prior to first day of work.

- Ability to interact with all age levels.
- Valid drivers’ license, proof of insurance and access to reliable transportation. Daily and/or occasional travel may be required. Must be comfortable driving narrow, winding mountain roads with passengers in mini or cargo vans.

Office Equipment/ Machines/ Electronic Devices
Personal computer and printers, telephone, fax machine, copier, audiovisual equipment, and other miscellaneous office equipment.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, work with fingers, grasp, feel, talk, hear and perform repetitive motions.
- Ability to perform frequent and moderate lifting exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Heavy visual acuity required performing such activities as preparing and analyzing data and figures, using computer terminal and reading.
- Activities occur both inside and outside and employee is subject to both environmental conditions; however, employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
